Finally a few pic's of the donkey going into this build
An Audi A5 3.0 Tdi Capa v6.

When it first arrived , it is fairly untouched apart from the engine mounts removed & ecu removed

Ready to be dropped into the car.

 photo 2013-06-06175956.jpg

This in stock form is 177 kW (241 PS; 237 hp)@4000-4400, 500 N·m (369 lbf·ft)@1500-3000
But this car will have an uprated intercooler, hybrid turbo and no Dpf or Cat & a full 3" stainless exhaust.
The egr & swirl ports will also be deleted from the ecu.

This should yield results of 320hp & 500-550ft-lbs
Depending on how much smoke is acceptable :)
Made big progress over the last 3 days on the subframe and A5 engine mounts

R33/34 GTR subframe un-modified
 photo IMG_20130202_181652.jpg

Subframe as off today

 photo 2013-06-06172735.jpg

The subframe needs to be mounted reverse way's, because the audi engine and gearbox has the steering rack mounted in front of the axle.

Not a problem considering the chassis legs needed to be drilled regardless.

This is the passenger side mount completed

This is the beggining of the driver side mount. I cant finish this until i know the clearance of the steering rack.
 photo 2013-06-06172742.jpg

These are the two engine mounts i made for the audi block, they utilise the skyline engine mounts
because the engine weights are the same and if needed i can change them to GTR or polyurethane

 photo 2013-06-05193449.jpg

I have notched the passenger chassis leg to clear the A/C pump it is only a few mm close, but i would rather have decent clearance all round

More skyline work,
All my work for the next 2 weeks are going to be skyline work as
its going back to the shop to get the bodywork done.

So ill be working there aswell to get the finishing touchs done.

Finished making templates for the new engine mounts & subframe mounts.
 photo 2013-06-03191904.jpg

These will need to welded re-inforced & cleaned up as this is them in there un-touched form.
This is only the driver side mount template.
Passenger side will be finished tomorrow.

Chassis legs still need to be notched for the driveshaft & for the A/C pump & pipes
as this is all being kept for this car.

Hoping to have engine sitting in place tomorrow, with all my welding & re-inforcements done aswell.

I also finished machining the trigger wheels i will post pictures tomorrow also.
These needed to be machined on the lathe on both sides in order for the diff & propshaft to side into them.
this also makes them smaller so not as big a bolt is required.

Trigger wheels brackets still need to be made, this will be done during the week.

It is progressing & this week alone it should come along way.

More Skyline work this morning.

First bit was reinforceing the rear subframe welds & bracket,
Then fitting an enerygy suspension snubber above the diff to take the load after the stock mount.
Shocks to the drivetrain break things & torque break things.
So the shocks i can the minimise, the 550ft-lbs on demand i cant :)

A quick glimpse of the steering rack im fitting to this car.
Using stock Gtr tie rods to match the original width.

08 Mazda rack with 2.7:1 turn ratio & 160mm stroke, Alot better than the 3.1 ratio & 140mm skyline rack, Making a much more go-kart like steering response, Giving a theoretic lock to lock ratio of 2.4 turns plus extra lock.

Im a big fan of drifting since i had my old fc3s rx7.
But thats gone so i get by with playing Rfactor,
Best drift or car simulator out there in my eyes , everything else is still arcade-ish

So i decided to upgrade my G25 Wheel to a Logitech T500 RS

Great wheel & far superior
few pic's after unboxing.

The forcefeedback takes some getting used to but is very impressive.
Anyone interested in online drifting check out JDMFACTOR on facebook
Colt toke a back seat the last few days while i finished college exams & got working on the skyline rear subframe today, managed to get most of it done, Next is abs trigger wheel & sensor mount then get the driveshafts sorts they will be a mix off A5 inner & Skyline outer cv's

 photo 2013-05-28174646.jpg

First part of removing the skyline diff front mount & giving me the clearance i need for the audi diff mount.

 photo 2013-05-28221333.jpg

Front diff mount made from sheetmetal, supports the original audi a5 diff mount.
Still need's about an hours welding on the underside

Audi A5 Quattro gearbox,
First & only gearbox that has the front diff mounted this far forward.
Meaning that the engine sit's just in front of the axle as the axle centre line will be 1" behind the axle.
All other quattro box's would have meant the engine sat to far forward and that would mean this conversion
would not be possible as the front evo ix support panel is already mounted 4" further back.

 photo IMG_20130202_181643.jpg

Surprisingly compact 6 cylinder. any other engine also would not have fit as a 4 cylinder inline would
be too far forward also & V8 is just overkill too much weight overhang etc etc.

This engine with a hybrid turbo & remap is know to put out 320hp & 550ft-lbs.
in a small hatchback & still return 40-50mpg when driven conservatively :)

OBD-II / CAN Interface

This also arrived recently, ordered from dakota digital, this little gem is a one of it's kind on the market.
It allows new canbus engines fitted to non-canbus cars, The ability to run the old analogue clocks.
It also allows you to run the analogue speedometer.
But this means that you need to have swapped over the wheel speed sensors and abs ecu and actuator.

Otherwise you could just swap the rear wheel speed sensors & the abs ecu will send a canbus
packet that states the vehicles speed and the can interface with convert this to analogue, also handy
if your new engine & matching gearbox doesn't have a speed sensor or prop speed sensor.

This unit does need to be calibrated to the vehicles existing clocks but takes 5-10 to set.
As it gives out a constand 60mph & 2000rpm test signal for you to set them with.

TL866A

Finally arrived from hong kong.

Very handy little chip/eprom reader, Came with a huge selection of attachments.
These allow you to read many different types of ic's & even has a soic clip, this can read
chips that are still on a board & dont need to be removed.
Just wating on some chipquick to arrive & then i can replace the EDC16CP memory chip from
my audi a6 ecu & also reprogram the main immobiliser chip to delete the imobilliser.
Considering i was getting quotes of anywere between €4-600 for this kind of work to be done.
I opted to give it one go myself.

This unit has protection on all 40pins so any idiot can read chips with it, Suiting me fine :)

S-Body Rear Caliper mount
 photo s-bodycaliperrear.jpg
Designed this today to get plasma cut during the week, It's for another car im building.
And it allows evo fitment rear brembo calipers bolt up to any s-body hub's
That can include skylines, as will be this ones use.

Rather than being restricted to Impreza Sti calipers bolting up only.

Welcome to my blog,
I hope to keep this upto date with all relevant work i need to do while building my car.

To surmise this car is a Mitsubishi Mirage (CL2A) 4wd model.
The same as a more commonly know Mitsubishi colt.

I will refer to this car as a colt for the remainder of this blog.

My goal is to have a fast/ economical / unique fun car.
I just havent found a manufacturer that sells one i want.

The car will be diesel powered for economy.
Will have a 3.0 v6 TDI for power.
And will be built using all oem parts from manufacturers to achieve the looks i want.
The look im going for a modern hatchback with designed on looking like an
Evolution IX Hatchback. Something never made before.

The rear end will be heavily modified to achieve the correct shape desired to actually
look appealing,

Hope i pull it all off
Thanks
